Continuing its track record as a versatile and community-focused general contractor, Telamon successfully completed a comprehensive interior renovation and exterior improvements project at the Ida Rupp Public Library. Serving as the general contractor, Telamon managed a $2.4 million transformation of the aging facility while ensuring the library could continue to serve the public during construction.
The project focused on modernizing the library’s amenities. These enhancements featured ADA accessible bathrooms, including a family restroom equipped with an adult changing station, as well as the addition of a dedicated children’s programming space and larger study rooms. To support these public spaces, the renovation also included the installation of a fire suppression system, energy efficient lighting, and critical updates to mechanical systems.
One of the most significant aspects of the project was the strategic three-phase execution. Because the library needed to remain operational, Telamon carefully orchestrated the workflow to ensure that the facility was only fully closed to the public for a brief window. A major technical hurdle during this transition involved the secure migration of library data, a challenge the Telamon team successfully navigated to ensure no disruption to the library’s digital catalog or infrastructure.
Safety and patron experience remained the top priorities since the site was occupied by the public and staff throughout construction. To maintain a quiet environment Telamon implemented rigorous precautions, including installing temporary sound-dampening walls that managed construction noise to minimize disruptions.
The exterior improvements included a widened 3rd Street entrance that seamlessly integrated the library’s existing hold lockers. By the project’s conclusion, the facility was outfitted with updated furnishings and a revitalized layout completed to client satisfaction and within budget.
